Colorado Technical University Moving to Expanded Campus in Aurora
Relocation of Denver South campus offers more classrooms, parking and technology to meet student growth and needs
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, August 18, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- The Denver South campus of Colorado Technical University (CTU) is relocating from the Denver Tech Center to Aurora to accommodate more students and classes.
Located six miles from the current CTU Denver South campus, the new building at 3151 South Vaughn Way near the intersection of I-225 and Parker Road offers expanded classroom space, more parking and convenient commuter access. The new campus location is scheduled to open on June 25, in time for the summer quarter starting July 5.
CTU is maintaining its Denver North campus in Westminster.
"CTU Denver has seen tremendous growth in the past few years, and the new building in Aurora gives us the space to keep up with the demand for our degree programs while providing an enhanced learning atmosphere for our students," said Dr. Mark Pieffer, CTU Denver campus president. "In our new facility, we can offer 32 more classes per quarter giving students more courses to choose from at times that fit in their busy schedules."
In the past five years, CTU Denver South campus has more than doubled its enrollment from 353 to 797 students. At both Denver campuses, CTU has nearly tripled since 2006 from a total of almost 500 students to more than 1,000 students.
To accommodate the increase in students, CTU has signed a 10-year lease with developer AHC Metro Cherry Creek III, LLC. for space in the 29,351-square-foot building and access to almost 200 parking spoits parking spots until 6 p.m. and nearly 300 spots after 6 p.m. The building is within walking distance of an RTD light rail stop, making it easier for students to use public transportation to attend classes.
The Aurora campus features larger student and faculty lounges, along with a redesigned resource center for students to study, conduct online research or meet for class projects. The new space also features advanced technology for learning. In the resource center, students have access to 29 instead of eight computers at the current location. CTU is adding six 65-inch HDTVs and an interactive whiteboard to some classrooms.
The building's open design offers views of Cherry Creek Reservoir, downtown Denver and the mountains along the Front Range.
"At CTU, we work every day to provide our students with career-relevant education to help them advance in their profession or discover new opportunities," said Pieffer. "An important pillar in providing the highest quality education is giving our faculty and students the best tools, resources and technologies that will enable them to be successful."
The CTU Denver campus offers degrees in business and management, criminal justice and public administration, computer science, information systems and technology and health sciences, as well as an interdepartmental degree option.
