IRVINE, CA, September 29, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Soka University of America (SUA) today announced that its seventh annual Peace Gala, "Celebrating a Vision of Peace," will be held on the beautiful Soka University of America campus on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception and silent auction in the Founders Hall Art Gallery at 5:30 p.m., and then proceed across Peace Lake to the main venue for dinner, entertainment, live auction and dancing.
Latin Grammy Award-winning flautist, Nestor Torres, will entertain guests with his signature sound that is equally rooted in jazz, classical and Latin styles. His fluid versatility and total command of his instrument allows a freedom of expression that is captivating and liberating, powerful and genuine.
Actor Ron Glass, best known for his role as Detective Ron Harris on the TV sitcom "Barney Miller," will serve as this year's master of ceremonies. Joan May and Dita Shemke return as event co-chairs for the fifth year, and Teresa Fu is the honorary chair.
"This year we are infusing the passion and energy of Latin culture into this year's event," said Event Co-Chair Joan May. The decor will be vibrant and bold to complement the passion of Nestor's music. In addition, guests will enjoy a variety of pan-Latin inspired hors d'oeuvres options and dinner by the Patina Group.
Tax-deductible tickets to this sumptuous Latin evening are $300. Proceeds from this year's Latin-themed gala will help provide full tuition scholarships for admitted students whose families make $60,000 or less a year.
Each year, the gala raises funds for scholarships for Soka University students who come from around the world to experience Soka's unique educational experience founded upon the principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life. SUA founder Daisaku Ikeda said, "The ultimate goal of a Soka education is to foster people of character who continuously strive for the greatest good - that of peace."
