Fundraiser Drives Out Autism, Supports ASCEND's K-12 Programs
Golf tournament and silent auction at Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott, Arizona on October 29, 2011 will benefit ASCEND's K-12 autism programs. Tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities are still available.
PRESCOTT, AZ, October 08, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- The Autism Spectrum Center for Educational and Neurological Development (ASCEND) invites golfers, shoppers and community members to its "Driving Out Autism" fundraiser on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Antelope Hills Golf Course at 1 Perkins Drive in Prescott, Arizona.
The family-friendly event will feature an 18-hole golf tournament, putting contests, silent auction, raffle prizes, live music and luncheon at the course's Manzanita Grille.
Proceeds will directly benefit autism programs at ASCEND and all sponsorships, pledges, donated silent auction items and donated raffle prizes are fully tax-deductible.
ASCEND now offers comprehensive programs for students in grades K-12 at its newly expanded location at 6741 Corsair Ave. near the Prescott airport. The facility houses several classrooms, includes a computer learning center and features a large outdoor recreation space with swings and a gardening area.
"ASCEND meets students where they are - behaviorally, socially, academically," says the school's founder and director, Angela Hampton-Levin, also a certified teacher. "We build on student interests and strengths and then challenge them to meet new goals."
Some of these goals are directed at improving daily living skills and developing leisure activities, while some target academics or focus on behavior issues.
"With the addition of our high school program this year we have moved to a new facility and added a second teacher," Levin says. "And with all new additions come new expenses."
Looking to the future, Hampton-Levin says, "We would love to add iPad computers for communication enhancement and of course continue building our capacity to meet the needs of other children and families affected by Autism in the Quad-City area and surrounding communities."
Golf tournament registration begins at 8:00 am, followed by a shot-gun start at 9:00 am, luncheon at 11:30 am and silent auction from noon to 2:00 pm.
Auction items and raffle prizes will include gift certificates from area businesses, artwork by local artists, gift baskets and other exciting items.
Golf sponsorships are available for $300 per team and include 4-person scramble, registration, luncheon and tournament prizes. The first golfer to hit a hole-in-one will win a special prize. Lunch tickets will be available for non-playing guests. Mulligans will also be available for purchase.
Team leaders with at least $300 in pledges will golf for free. The top three teams will receive special recognition and exciting prizes.
To date, corporate sponsors include Warrens Hay-n-More, Farm Bureau Insurance, Every Kids Dentist and many more. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
Silver sponsors receive name recognition at their hole of choice and at the luncheon for a $100 donation. Gold sponsors also receive name recognition on tournament t-shirts and four luncheon tickets for a $250 donation. Platinum sponsors additionally receive name recognition on a special golf item giveaway for a $500 donation.

About ASCEND:
Since 2007, ASCEND has been addressing the needs of children diagnosed with autism and related disorders in the Quad-City area - Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Prescott and Prescott Valley - as well as neighboring northern Arizona communities including Ashfork, Bagdad, Hillside, Kirkland, Mayer, Seligman, Skull Valley, Walnut Grove and Yarnell.
"Our program offers an alternative to rural school sites who have no real options to serve students with autism or complex language disorders or behavioral challenges," Hampton-Levin says. "We want to be a resource."
The teaching team has extensive training in Applied Behavioral Analysis and other research-based methodologies and techniques that are used in working with students on the autism spectrum and those with language disorders and challenging behaviors.
ASCEND also provides its students related specialists and services for speech therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology and behavioral consulting.
Autism, a neurological condition manifested by developmental delays, affects approximately one in 110 children, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Some estimate the number of children on the autism spectrum to be much higher than this ratio.
ASCEND is a non-profit Arizona Department of Education approved private day school specializing in the educational, language and behavioral needs of children with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities serving northern Arizona students in grades K-12.
