Sharon Harrington Evinces Passion for Teaching Students with Special Needs
Having witnessed her son's struggle in the classroom, Mrs. Harrington strives to help other children succeed
EL MONTE, CA, October 19, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Sharon Harrington, Special Education Teacher for Mountain View School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.
An expert in the field of special education for the past 13 years, Mrs. Harrington was prompted to enter her profession because her son was affected by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Through her personal experience, she recognized that special needs children require individualized attention in the classroom. Her desire to help her son, and other students, was so strong that she halted her career in the advertising field and pursued a Master of Arts in special education. She graduated summa cum laude from California State Polytechnic University and established herself in a completely new field.
Motivated by the big hearts of her students, Mrs. Harrington is devoted to her craft, and she has been recognized numerous times for her efforts. She was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among American Teachers in 2004 and 2005, and has been named Teacher of the Year by the staff and students at Twin Lakes Elementary School. In 2008, Mrs. Harrington was honored by Cambridge Who's Who as a Professional of the Year representing special education. To keep abreast of industry trends, she retains affiliations with the California Teachers Association, the National Education Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi.
