J.D. Rowell Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Agriculture

SACRAMENTO, CA, November 28, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- J. D. Rowell, Retired Senior Agricultural Economist and Acting Chief, Marketing Branch, California Department of Food and Agriculture, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in agriculture.
Mr. Rowell began his 37-year professional career with four years as Assistant Agricultural Economist and Agricultural Economist with the Arizona Agricultural Experiment Station at the University of Arizona. Then he enjoyed 33 years as Senior Agricultural Economist and Acting Chief, Marketing Branch, California Department of Food and Agriculture, principally with agricultural marketing and promotion. He was responsible for overseeing and supervising California agricultural marketing order programs, and other duties assigned to the Marketing Branch. During this time, he was in Brazil for one year as Agricultural Marketing and Processing Advisor for the International Cooperation Administration (ICA). He also served in the same position, while he was there for one more year, when it was succeeded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He says the highlight, and most demanding time of his career, was when he was assigned to serve as both Acting Chief and as Senior Agricultural Economist for nearly two years.
Mr. Rowell earned both a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics at Oregon State University. He was honored by Alpha Zeta and, since retiring, has funded the Rowell Fellowship in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University. Mr. Rowell continues to donate to, and otherwise assist, public TV and radio, and other charitable and community groups and organizations, primarily in the Sacramento area.
