Jean L. Smith, M.Ed., Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Elementary Education
Ms. Smith has been selected as a VIP Member for 2011-2012
EDINBORO, PA, December 13, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Jean Smith, M.Ed., Retired Teacher for General McLane School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education. In addition to being named a VIP member, Ms. Smith was featured in the Premiere Edition of Cambridge Publishing's Pro-Files Magazine and has received the distinction of Elite American Educator.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Smith spent 44 years as an elementary school teacher. She spent her time instructing students, incorporating families into school projects, working for the total well-being of each student, keeping abreast of the latest educational trends in literature, and instilling in students independent work and study habits. She was responsible for planning and implementing a third-grade core curriculum, attending meetings geared towards parents and students, and ensuring students' safety.
Ms. Smith believes that in order to become a good teacher, one must possess patience and sincerity, and be passionate about becoming a strong role model in order to guide students down the right path in life. Some of her students have been published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.
She had a lifelong desire to be a teacher, and was inspired by her Sunday school teachers. The highlight of her career was implementing a new project and integrating it into the third-grade curriculum — the Mini-Society, in which the students became real-life entrepreneurs.
Ms. Smith earned a Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Edinboro University. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, as well as a former member of General McLane Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Education Association. She was recognized by Who's Who Among American Teachers and received the Golden Apple Award from Edinboro University. Going forward, Ms. Smith aspires to become a consultant.
