Nashville Law Firm Sponsors Student Essay Contest on Respect

Nashville 5th graders explain what Respect means to them and why it is important.

NASHVILLE, TN, December 08, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- The Nashville law firm of Kinnard, Clayton & Beveridge recently sponsored an essay contest for area fifth-graders. In their essays, each student was asked to respond to two questions: What is respect and why is it important?

Nearly 900 students submitted entries. Firm founder, Randy Kinnard, recognized the top finishers at a Metro Nashville Courthouse event.

Winning first place was Susannah Loss of Meigs Middle Magnet School. Loss's essay depicted a world without respect as bleak and dark, transforming into a bright and pastoral place, as respect is reintroduced to the world.

For her efforts, Loss received $1,000 for herself. In addition, her school and the charity of her choice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, each received $1,000.

Kinnard, a public speaker on the issue of respect, sponsored the essay contest in an attempt to teach children about the subject, before they learned bad habits that would not serve them well as adults. "If they can think charity, promote charity and select a charity, that promotes respect," he said as quoted in The Tennessean.
