Madeleine is the Managing Director of the Next Project, which is a legal, governance, and business advisory service that specializes in the provision of legal and consultancy services to the corporate, not for profit, government agency, education, research and training industries and associated sectors. They work with clients to achieve growth; manage change; effectively manage compliance to achieve operational excellence on a state and federal level; manage risk and legal matters strategically and in a commercially pragmatic way; achieve effective board decision making; and liaise with key stakeholders internally and externally.
Over the course of her impressive career, Madeleine has worked as a corporate and commercial lawyer both in Sydney and regional New South Wales in private practice and in-house roles. She has also worked in the higher education sector for the last 10 years where she set up and managed Southern Cross University's legal office and the legal team. Madeleine was the first General Counsel of Southern Cross University and its controlled entities in Australia and overseas. She was also Chair of the University's Tender Board and Privacy Officer for the University. In addition, Madeleine served as a Company Secretary of the Australian Plant DNA Bank Limited and the National Marine Science Centre Pty Ltd.
During her collegiate career, Madeleine earned Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney in 1994; Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New South Wales in 1997; Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law in 1997; and a Master of Laws degree in Corporate, Commercial and Taxation Law from the University of New South Wales in 1999.
Madeleine is a member of the Australian Corporate Lawyer's Association, Society of University Lawyers, Far North Coast Law Society, Law Society of New South Wales, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. She is a director of 2020Women, an executive committee member of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and also a member and Vice President of Fundraising for the Lennox Head-Alstonville Surf Life Saving Club. In 2007, Madeleine was awarded the 'Australian In House Lawyer Young Achiever of the Year Award,' through the Australian Corporate Lawyers' Association for her outstanding leadership skills and achievements.
