Anthony Cunningham Earns Membership With Stanford Who's Who

Anthony Cunningham has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his remarkable professional career.

    SYDNEY, NSW, AUSTRALIA, May 18, 2011 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Anthony Cunningham has been accepted among the prestigious ranks of Stanford Who's Who as a result of his remarkable professional career. As a Professor and Executive Director of the Westmead Millennium Institute, as well as throughout his incredible 38 years in the field, Dr. Cunningham has consistently displayed the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.

The Westmead Millennium Institute is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia conducting research into a wide range of important human disorders affecting both adults and children. Closely affiliated with Westmead Hospital and the University of Sydney, their research spans infectious and immune diseases; cancer and leukemia; liver and metabolic diseases; eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.

Anthony is also the Executive Director of the Centre for Virus Research and Sub-Dean of the University of Sydney's Western Clinical School. He completed his undergraduate training with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree in 1972, and went on to work at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in various roles including a Lectureship in Medicine at the University of Melbourne during which he completed an MD in viral arthritis until 1980. From there, Dr. Cunningham was appointed Senior Medical Registrar at Fairfield Infectious Diseases, Melbourne.

Dr. Cunningham was an NHMRC Applied Health Sciences Fellow at the Division of Infectious Diseases at Stanford University from 1981-1983. In 1984, he was appointed Director of the Virology Department of the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research and consultant physician in the Infectious Diseases Unit at Westmead Hospital until his current appointment in June 1996. Dr. Cunningham was appointed Associate Professor of Virology/Medicine in the University of Sydney, Department of Medicine in 1989. He joined the Board of the Children's Medical Research Institute as the nominee of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney in 1996. Dr. Cunningham is a member of the American Association of Microbiology and the American Society of Infectious Disease.
