Dr. Cheryl K. Schmidt Named a Professional of the Year in Nursing Education

Cheryl Schmidt, Ph.D., RN, specializes in teaching disaster preparedness nursing

    LITTLE ROCK, AR, May 5, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Dr. Cheryl K. Schmidt, Ph.D., RN, CNE, ANEF Associate Professor and Associate Dean of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing education.

Dr. Schmidt is a certified nursing instructor with four decades of health care experience and expertise in pediatrics and disaster preparedness. Therefore, it is no surprise that her students have honored her with numerous Best Professional Role Model awards. For the past 17 years, she has utilized her skills as an associate professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. Dr. Schmidt teaches bachelor-level nursing courses, including Community Health Nursing and Introduction to Research. Additionally, she has succeeded in receiving grants and publications regarding disaster preparedness education for health care providers; she regularly participates in presentations and acts as a consultant on the subject. In 2010, she became an associate dean and was named a Professional of the Year in Nursing Education by Cambridge Who's Who.

In addition to her work with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Schmidt's career has been defined by her 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, establishment of a free clinic in Benton, Ark., and exceptional education. Dr. Schmidt holds a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh along with a Master of Science in nursing and Bachelor of Science in nursing, both from The Ohio State University. A fellow of the Academy of Nursing Education, she has been a member of the American Nurses Association since 1970. Her further affiliations include the American Public Health Association, National Student Nurses Association, National League for Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International. Dr. Schmidt also volunteers as a nurse liaison for the American Red Cross. She attributes her success to the support she receives from her family, including her mother and sisters, who are also nurses.
