Phillip E. Williams II Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who

Phillip Williams hopes to aid educators toward instructional excellence and improve the educational system

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, May 6, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Phillip Williams II, Teacher at Academy School District 20, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

Mr. Williams is thankful for the emphasis that his parents placed on education while he was growing up; it has helped him reach his current level of success and solidified his goal to help teachers become better at what they do. With 10 years of professional experience, Mr. Williams ventured into the field of education after becoming familiar with a program at the Family Development Center in Denver, Colo. At the center, he discovered the needs of the community and understood that there was something lacking in the educational system. He believed that in order to make improvements, education needed to become the center of the community and community leaders needed to increase their involvement in this sector.

Mr. Williams has spent the last nine years of his career at Academy School District 20, where he teaches fourth-grade students. He monitors students' progress and achievement with carefully designed curriculum using Understanding by Design methodology to further student achievement. He also works to promote 21st Century Learning using the rigor and relevance framework to enhance student learning by using curriculum to make connections to the outside world.

Having already earned a Master of Arts in teaching, Mr. Williams is pursuing a doctoral degree in curriculum, instruction and assessment, at Walden University, to strengthen his expertise. He is also conducting action research and working with gender grouping in the classroom. He works with the First Presbyterian Church as a supervisor and works with school-aged children and toddlers; teaching Bible stories and songs.

Mr. Williams is affiliated with ASCD and Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society, and volunteers further with the Western Museum of Mining and Industry in Colorado Springs, Colo. Among his many goals are becoming more active at the administrative level of education and obtaining a position as an adjunct professor at a university to further promote the importance of community based education.
