Weiselande Cesar Goes through a Full Spectrum of Emotions in her New Book
In "The Colors We Feel," Ms. Cesar discusses the feelings and memories people associate with different colors
MIAMI SHORES, FL, May 17, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Seeing red, feeling blue, green with envy, tickled pink — for centuries and in various art forms, emotions have been expressed figuratively in colors. Could these possibly have a literal basis, too? In a new book, Cambridge Who's Who VIP member Weiselande Cesar delves into the feelings human beings attribute to different hues and shades. Titled "The Colors We Feel," it presents the idea that a color is not simply used to communicate a mood or an outlook; rather, it actually influences feelings and triggers memories.
Published by Xlibris, "The Colors We Feel" advocates connecting with one's emotions in order to lead a healthier life and better understand others. It is illustrated with vivid full-color photographs by Myriame Pierre, a colleague of Ms. Cesar's in the Miami Dade County school system. While it is essentially a discussion of individual colors and what they mean, the book is also a collection of personal anecdotes and reminiscences. All are shared in a candid, even humorous, tone. In dissecting yellow, for instance, Ms. Cesar reveals a student's sad association with the color, having seen it worn by a beloved grandmother at her funeral. She then presents an opposing perspective with her own childhood memory of a yellow schoolhouse set against a cloudless sky in her native Haiti. "Hence, when I see the sun, I feel as if I can accomplish many things," she writes.
"The Colors We Feel" is Ms. Cesar's first book. In it, she supports her points with examples from her own life as a mother of three, a professional dancer, and a special education teacher for M-CPS. These days, she is also widely known as the CEO of Tradisyon Lakou Lakay (www.tllakayinc.com), a Miami-based nonprofit that she founded in 2001 to promote Haitian culture, dance and arts among young people. She strives to instill in her charges a positive outlook on life and pride in their own cultures, as well as provide a venue for a healthy exchange of ideas. Noted for her dedication to children, she was named Teacher of the Year in 2009 by Toussaint L'Ouverture Elementary School.
Ms. Cesar holds an educational specialist degree in educational leadership and degrees in theater and exceptional student education from Barry University. She aspires to attain the position of school principal within the next few years — the crowning glory of a truly colorful life.
