Susan Duman Named VIP of the Year for Excellence in Psychotherapy and Education

After teaching for 14 years, Ms. Duman became a licensed clinical social worker and therapist to advocate for underserved students

CHICAGO, IL, June 22, 2011 /Education PR News/ --Susan S. Duman, MA, LCSW, Pro-Bono Diagnostician for The Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in psychotherapy and education.

While working as a teacher, Ms. Duman was inspired by and drawn to students with problems. Eager to help children on a greater level, she felt that she could be a strong advocate for their emotional growth and development. She therefore shifted gears toward social work and therapy after serving as a substitute teacher for 10 years and a full-time teacher for four. Now a pro-bono diagnostician for The Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, she provides mental health services to children and adults.

Currently, Ms. Duman is collaborating with social workers to launch a project at the Noble Street Charter Schools of Chicago, Ill., that will provide underserved children with emotional support and services to help them attain stability and achieve success in the classroom. Ms. Duman, who holds licenses as a clinical social worker and therapist and certification as a child adolescent psychotherapist, credits her success to her ability to build effective relationships. She continues to excel in her position because she truly cares about the well-being of others throughout Chicago.

A graduate of The University of Chicago, Ms. Duman earned a Master of Arts in 1978. She sits on the Women's Board of the University of Chicago to contribute to the continued development of her alma mater. Previously, she was a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Clinical Social Workers, an institution that provides advanced studies in clinical social work. Looking forward, Ms. Duman intends to continue performing pro-bono mental health services in Chicago.
