Carol Washuta Honored for 31 Years of Excellence in Physical Education and Health

Now retired, Ms. Washuta cites the greatest aspect of her career to be the influence she had on her students' participation in sports

    FORT WORTH, TX, July 26, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Carol D. Washuta, Retired Teacher, formerly of Fort Worth Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.

An award-winning educator, Ms. Washuta spent 31 years sharing her passion for physical education with students. Twenty-seven years of those years were dedicated to the Fort Worth Independent School District, where she was responsible for leading six 45-minute classes daily and teaching students healthy living habits in health courses. Not one to scrape by on the minimum requirements, she arrived early every day to set up equipment, prepare curriculum and allow students to come to her as a mentor. Prior to retiring, she supervised student teachers at Texas Christian University, North Texas State University, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Wesleyan University and Baylor University. For her excellence as an educator, Ms. Washuta was awarded the title of teacher of the year on four occasions; once by the Fort Worth Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, once by the Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, and twice by Bruce Shulkey Elementary School. She was also the Fort Worth Education Association Distinguished Retiring Teacher awarded for Outstanding Achievement.

Ms. Washuta holds a Master of Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University and a Bachelor of Science from Valparaiso University. She is a lifetime member of the local parent teacher association, and a member of the Fort Worth Education Association, the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, the Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association, In addition, she is the former president of the Fort Worth Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, and a former chairwoman and vice president of hospitality for The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. In her retirement, Ms. Washuta volunteers her time to assist others in her church, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, and numerous community organizations. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys, she finds the time to loyally follow the teams.
