Renee Petrola Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who
Ms. Petrola specializes in teaching literature and writing to students in her community
MOUNT SINAI, NY, August 19, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Renee Petrola, Teacher for the Mount Sinai School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
With more than four decades of professional experience as an educator, Ms. Petrola shines in the areas of literature and writing instruction. She manages an intensive creative and research writing program, teaches four classes in writing, runs a reading literature program for sixth-grade students, and encourages students to become involved in competitive writing and poetry contests. She teaches students about using computers, desktop publishing, and Smart Boards, and conducts conferences with her fellow teachers. She also consults with special education teachers.
Ms. Petrola works as a conflict mediator and has experience as a counselor. She has taught swimming lessons as well as writing classes, and is dedicated to building community in the Mount Sinai area. She served as one of four pioneer teachers working in an outdoor learning laboratory with fifth-grade students studying the impact of humankind upon the environment.
She attributes her success to her passion, listening and observational skills. She became involved in her profession because of the inspiration she received from her mother, Phyllis Petrola, who was also an elementary teacher. Ms. Petrola has great respect for all of her students, and is proud to play a role in their accomplishments.
Ms. Petrola received a master's degree in liberal studies from Stony Brook University, plus 100 credits. She is an active member of the local parent-teacher association, Mount Sinai Teachers Association, National Education Association, and American Federation of Teachers. For her hard work and commitment to teaching children to make the best of their schooling, she received recognition as an exemplary educator from Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Moreover, she was selected as a Professional of the Year in Education by Cambridge Who's Who in 2010. Ms. Petrola intends to continue teaching for several years, and would like to publish some of her writing.
