Rachel A. Cowan Recognized for Excellence in Health Information Management

Rachel Cowan develops business plans and oversees ventures for the Medical College of Wisconsin

    MILWAUKEE, WI, September 26, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Rachel A. Cowan, Director of Business Operations for the Medical College of Wisconsin, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in health information management.

Ms. Cowan discovered the field of health care in high school, when she worked in a pharmacy; she has enjoyed working in the field ever since. Today, she possesses two decades of professional experience and expertise in health information management and physician practice management. She utilizes her skills in the role of director of business operations for the Medical College of Wisconsin. Ms. Cowan's position primarily entails developing business plans and overseeing new ventures for the department of pediatrics. She also analyzes profit and loss, improves operational flow, handles change management and oversees managers and employees in the pediatrics department.

In addition to her work with the Medical College of Wisconsin, Ms. Cowan is an author and has done public speaking on physician coding. She wrote a poster presentation on performance improvement entitled "The Benefits, Costs and Lessons Learned." In May of 2004, she co-authored a poster entitled, "Reimbursement of Time-Based Evaluations and Management Codes for Medical Care Coordination." She attributes her success to her determination and the support of friends and family.

Ms. Cowan is pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Stephens College. She graduated summa cum laude from Stephens College with a Bachelor of Science in health information administration. A fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, Ms. Cowan is a certified medical practice executive, registered health information administrator, and a physician-based certified coding specialist. Her professional affiliations include the Medical Group Management Association, American College of Medical Practice Executives, American Health Information Management Association, and Association of Administrators in Academic Pediatrics. In 2009, Ms. Cowan was recognized by the Pinnacle Honor Society. Looking toward the future, she hopes to become the chief operating officer of a medical group practice.
