Sonya K. Emperingham, M.Ed., B.Ed., RRNCA, is passionate about literacy education

    VICTORIA, BC, CANADA, September 01, 2011 /Education PR News/ -- Sonya Kathleen Emperingham, M.Ed., B.Ed., RRNCA, Retired Vice Principal and Reading Recovery Specialist for School District 63, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education administration.

After working as a university librarian and helping to establish literacy programs, Ms. Emperingham gained interest in brain research and early intervention. She not only maintained a passion for literacy education throughout her 36-year professional career as a teacher and educational administrator, but hopes in her retirement to pursue new opportunities in the field.

A trained reading recovery teacher, Ms. Emperingham earned a Master of Education in curriculum development from the University of Victoria. She also holds certification in Young Learners Intervention. She is a member of the Reading Recovery Council of North America, International Reading Recovery Trainers Organization and ASCD. Her responsibilities as a vice principal included managing school operations, meeting with staff, parents and children, organizing special events, assigning staff responsibilities for special-needs students, working with trustees and teachers, and establishing literacy programs. During her teaching career, she helped establish a new school by combining two very diverse communities. Proud of her ability to apply theory to practice, Ms. Emperingham attributes her success to her consistency, tenacity and ability to pursue her goals. Looking ahead toward a bright future, she intends to establish a new business, create a literacy network, collaborate with educators, and travel. She is particularly interested in pursuing literacy contacts for adult education programs for job-seekers.
